Originally from Chicago with Moroccan roots, Mariame found AssemblyBuilt’s founder Ann at industry events. She was immediately drawn to the collaborative nature of AssemblyBuilt projects, and the opportunity to see AssemblyBuilt’s community collaboration - “Job Shack”- come to life.
“I’m interested in learning how architecture is made - all the nitty-gritty that you do with your hands, so that drew me in, too,” she said.
During her internship with AssemblyBuilt, Mariame has leaned into her desire to understand the full architectural process from start to finish. She contributed to assembly drawings for the “Job Shack” project and supported the development of garage plans, while also engaging directly in the fabrication side—working with CNC machines, laser etching custom placards, and preparing product sheets for online listings. She was happy to be on-site at MHUB, working with the students who assembled the Job Shack, along with the many other people who make a project possible.
“Mariame is a joy to work with,” said Ann Schuessler, AssemblyBuilt’s founder. “She is smart, creative, hardworking, and diligent. She is willing to try new things and work on any project I throw at her. I can tell her what my goal is/what I need the end product to be and she goes to work and figures it out.”
Mariame’s interests in community-focused architecture and understanding the process make her stand out as a budding architect. She is most interested in architectural work that serves people —whether through multi-use community spaces or adaptive reuse that reimagines existing buildings for new purposes.
After her internship, Mariame is looking forward to graduating this May and getting into the work of architecture. “I imagine it will be pretty different than school,” she said. She is drawn to collaborative environments and smaller firms where she can be closely involved in projects and build meaningful relationships with both colleagues and the communities they serve.
AssemblyBuilt is immensely grateful for Mariame’s hands-on mindset, commitment to community, and genuine passion for learning every layer of the process.
Schuessler said, “Mariame has a great disposition and sense of humor. I am truly sorry to see her go but very happy for her to be graduating and getting out in the work world!”
